Discovery begins its farewell to Captain Phil Harris…

As posted earlier, Discovery will air a special next month–July 20th– at 10pm eastern–‘Phil Harris Remembered’.  In addition to that, Discovery’s ‘Deadliest Catch’ episodes will soon share the story of the F/V Cornelia Marie Captain beginning this coming Tuesday, June 22nd at 9pm eastern.  Also–the July 13th episode of ‘After the Catch’ will include a farewell tribute to the late skipper.

Captain Phil Harris suffered a stroke on January 29, 2010, while the Cornelia Marie was offloading in the small Alaskan port town of St. Paul.  He was transported to Anchorage where he battled through surgery and treatment but ultimately passed away on February 9.

“Captain Phil was a father, fisherman, funny man and, most importantly for fans worldwide, a friend.  We celebrate his life and all those he has touched through DEADLIEST CATCH,” said Clark Bunting, President and General Manager of Discovery Channel and Science Channel.  “I wish this would never have been a storyline of the series, but I am proud of the heart and emotion we have worked so hard to put into these very special episodes as a tribute to Phil.”

ok that june 15 show just left me realing. what is going on with jake harris, and that stark addmission that he’s an addict? caught in the act of steeling phils pain pills? i knew he was acting a little loopy on deck and with his dutys but i didn’t see that coming. how much more danger could he put him self and the crew in? was this stress to much to handle for phil?
i have some many questions left unansewed i hope the following episodes will fill in the blanks

With summer vacation almost here, I decided to start looking for a unique place to travel. Tired of the usual beach vacations, my husband and I decided that we would like to go somewhere new this year.

Not wanting to get our passports renewed, we wanted to stay in the US. And so our search began. Limiting our search to something we have never done before, we decided that we wanted to go make the outdoors a focus on this trip. Not the usual outdoors buffs, with any hiking experience or anything under our belt, we decided that a nature cruise type vacation was just what we needed.

We decided to go for an Alaska cruise. I researched a ton of boat companies in Alaska and we were set.

The company we chose is known for its alaska fishing tours, and after visiting, we know why. The scenery is stunning, and you will see a variety of wildlife, glaciers, and other things not found elsewhere in the US.

For anyone wanting to vacation somewhere unique this year, I highly recommend an Alaskan cruise. You truly won’t regret it.

Thanks for all the great information Pat! Last week’s show was so hard to get through, I don’t know how we’re all gonna make it through the end of the season.

I loved Phil and the show will not be the same without him. On the June 22nd episode of “After the Catch”, Sig was a really good dancer!

  8. Phil Harris – what a man!, what a captain! what a father to his two sons! I am still in shock and dismay over Phil’s passing. I would never have believed that someone I never met or actually knew personally could affect me like it has. I feel like I knew him through watching him on Deadliest Catch for so long. There will never be anyone who could take his place. He will be missed so much by so many. My heart goes out to his sons, Josh and Jake, and I can only hope that the one thing their Dad wanted so badly will be achieved, for them to love each other, treat each other with respect, stay close, and stop fighting. Boys, please get a grip on your lives, especially Jake, stand up and be the man your Dad wanted you to be. Jake, you have got to beat your drug problem or you will never have anything in your life but heartache and misery. I’m sure Phil died with a broken heart over Jake. It is time to “Man Up”. God Bless both of you, I’ll be praying for you both!
