Episode 2–April 21st RED SKIES IN THE MORNING
It’s week two of the crab season and the boats have encountered low crab numbers, crew tensions and even serious injury. When the fleet wakes up to ominous red dawn skies, the skippers speculate that a severe storm is on the way. But with crab quota to catch, the boats keep fishing. The Time Bandit milks a family honey hole, while the Cornelia Marie strikes out. When 20-foot seas and high winds kick up, even the bravest skippers call in their men to wait out the storm. One boat, with eleven souls on board, sends out a Mayday. In an all too familiar scene, the Coast Guard launches rescue helicopters, and the skippers stay glued to their radios — anxiously awaiting news of the fate of their brother fishermen.
Questions to ponder: Will we meet these elusive new boats and crews, will anyone already ‘be on the crab’ in episode 2? And what will we learn of the tragic Katmai in this eppy? Let’s simply tune in, shall we?
