Featured in episode 12, ‘Mortal Men’, Tyler Jakes & the Bootleggers wrote and performed the catchy tune called Gamblers off the North Pacific Shore that we all hear continuously, as Capt Phil Harris spends a lonely day and night in his wheelhouse, waiting to enter the port of St. Paul Island in the Pribilofs, to seek medical attention that threatens his life! There’s more info on these interesting musicians on their website and as of Saturday, June 28th, you’ll be able to download the tune there. For now you can enjoy listening to it right on their myspace…
Directly from their myspace…So awhile ago my friend Mike Galaxy (who places songs for TV and film at indyhits. com ) asked me if I could come up with a folk song for the Discovery Channel show “Deadliest Catch”. I was already a huge fan of the show when he contacted me, so I was excited about the opportunity. I sat down that night after watching a couple episodes and wrote “Gamblers Off The North Pacific Shore”. I recorded it the next day and sent it to Mike. He sent it to the show and they liked it and placed it in this weeks episode, “Mortal Men”. It aired last night, and you can catch the encore tonight (10 pacific time…not sure about elsewhere) and I’m sure they will be airing re-runs throughout the week. So check it out if you get a chance. If you haven’t seen “Deadliest Catch” yet, it’s a really cool show that documents fisherman off the coast of Alaska during the king crab and Opilio crab fishing seasons. I highly recommend it, those guys are the baddest of the bad.
Have a good one,
