The Billikin was tied up to the dock for a few years since Trident Seafoods owns it and they chose to use the Billikin quota in other ways however, this season the Billikin is registered for both King crab and Opilio, so she’s out there fishing.

Thanks for the info! Is Jeff returning as her skipper? Any chance they may use her again on DC?

Jim Hilt is the captain again on the Billikin. He ran it for years in the big king crab days and was mate during the DC filming. Jeff sailed as mate last king crab. Stan Hansen, Sig’s cousin was mate last opilio season.

How would you get on one of these boats, do you have to go to alaska and walk the docks?

The best way to get a job is to know someone really well, Have a great work history in manual labor, search seafood processors on your online search, get a job at a processor, then start talking to crew and captains and get known..Unless you got alot of money and or time, dont jump up and go to Alaska, Vessels hire out of differnt ports, and with everything is nowdays, crews are staying on the boat. I left Alaska last fall and didnt do crab, and now I got out of the loop, its hard to get back on a boat, I didnt think I was gonna go back..Now I find myself calling every contact I had made while fishing befor trying to get back on a boat. I may have a spot this fall but who know’s???
