    Hello,
My name is Jay and I’m trying to get a greenhorn/deckhand job on a king crab f/v.I’m in great shape and can work my ass off.I have nothing at home or anything going on in my life but time to fish.I’m a great person to be around and can get along with anyone.Trust me,I would not let my crew down no matter what!As a little boy its all I ever wanted to do.Been on the water my whole life and ready to step my game up.By the way,I’m told all the time. That I’m the worlds luckyest guy alive and that could be good out at sea.Thank you and the worlds greatest greenhorn is ready at a moments notice.I hope to hear from someone real soon.Thank you again.

I can’t wait for the new episodes. When I eat crab I enjoy it more knowing that men risk their lives working for a living.

I think its to bad that Deadliest Catch is only once a week on tv. This is television I can watch all days of the week without getting enough. Only one thing they should’t do by Discovery is thouse “beeps” when there is something bads been say. Hope there is a version of the episode without it ;-) I whis all the fisherman a save and good season and hope they all return to save haven. From the Netherlands (there were Amsterdam is)I give you my kind regards. Ahoy sailors (could’t resist myself to say this) Marian Woelders

yeah, fishermen are a nasty-mouthed lot, it is all part of the job description, I think!
Enjoy the show, many “locals” in the mix, and I hope someday DC will feature the OR/WA crabbers (Dungeness) as the death/injury rate is actually higher than in AK, for many reasons.
    The pace is faster, too.

Well Folks, The Bering Sea boats and crews are out there right now fishing for crab gold. Making their living the cold hard way. When we finally get to look in on them, this year’s season will be in their past.
One thing I wonder… Via the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, which applies to watching people and animals as well as an atom’s electrons, how much does the presence of the cameras change the behavior of the crews? How much of what we see is just the human tendency to play to an audience? Invent a new superstition? Do something silly? Make an event more dramatic? Possibly to invent a situation? Or cause a captain to want to deep-6 a cameraman along about the time a 36 hr- or more- stretch has been worked? Get a new tattoo? We’ll just have to wait for April. (Actually, I wish they’d write a book about the crews- both boat and camera- and what goes on behind the scenes! Now THAT would be worth buying!!) Meanwhile, I hope everybody gets back to home port with no further injury or loss of life. This season has already been bad enough in that area.

It is sad about the deckhand that jumped off the Arctic Fox into the Bering sea and then refused to be rescued. He swam away from a life ring and a rescuer. Not wearing a survival suit, he is a lost soul. It happened earlier today, 1/30/09 Condolences to the families involved.

  10. Terry said

God Bless him, a soul full of courage, as those fishermen are, shouldn’t be so bold. Where did you get your information? First I have heard of it.

  11. I have just booked trip up there in the last two days with my 12 year old son, so he can not only travel to one of the most beautiful states but be a eyewitness to history. I was just curious to know if The crap boats are still going to be out in the begging of feb? Looks like I found the answer above but would still like to make sure before trying to find flights from Anchorage out to Dutch Harbor. (cost?)

Also That is tragic news Chris, Our Condolences as well to the family.

In reply to Terry. I subscribe to the Coast Guard mailing list. My son is an officer cadet at the Coast Guard Academy, working to be a helicopter pilot. Here is a link to a news story:

Thanx Chris for the link. It was quite a surprise that the favorite program among the detanees at Guantanamo is Deadliest Catch!
May I recommend the Dutch Harbor Dirt link! Its on the right on this web page in Red at the bottom of the link list. (Live Cams is at the top.) The Dirt includes several blogs (listed on the right of that web page). And the Police Blotter- which is fun to read. Almost as good as Skagway’s Police Blotter. (Skagway’s blotter has a drier sense of humor.) DC’s blog has some nice photos of Wizard, where this season Dunkin Donut coffee mugs are evidently rampant. No Cup’ONoodles styrofoam cups this time- Capt’n Keith is quitting the quid.

hey westcoyne…if you want your boy to get up close to these boats then i suggest you come here to saint paul island where they actually unload and procces the crab. cornelia marie just left the harbor two days ago after being stuck here for a couple of weeks do to engine problems and ice build-up in the harbor. we are actually good friends with a lot of the fisherman here and knew them way before the dc series came out. and im pretty sure that the OP season will go on till next month. round trip ticket from anchorage to here is about 900.00. anybody have any other ? i guess i can answer you all.

But i do wish the fish processor would have cams so we could view from time to time. it would really make it more intense.

  17. Hi guys
We are having withdrawels from not seeing the show for so long. Can’t wait for April. Be safe and keep it coming.

I LOVE this show. But … it just kills me to see the price of king crab in the grocery store … about $15 – 20/lb!!! I live in a land bound state … am not coastal. But the guys who literally DIE harvesting the crab get SO LITTLE MONEY!!! Keep eating King Crab!

  19. Jacqui Freeling said

I had my first pound of Alaskan king crab two nights ago. It was HUGE! My husband was surprised that I ordered it, given the danger of the industry, but I reminded him that, without jobs, there’d be no show. We’re having withdrawals, but the reruns are starting, so that should hold us for awhile.

    Hi,
You guys should come down under for a series of shows, talking on the very things that has become a world-wide hit, crab fishing. In a couple of months we have Cesar Millan coming here, and believe me tickets were extremely hard to buy. But if you decide to come we want the first tickets as we are huge fans of the show. Deal?

Wow. Control was a great episode. The Maverick crew got battered, the Time Bandit off then on, the NW and CM chugging away. Some new boat with a handlebar captain and all.

Those Maverick boys got bashed. All in all they were lucky. That amount of water sideways would have washed half of them off.,Phil cracked me up. “I bet he sh!7 his pants though”.

  28. Kenth said
