Captain Sig Gets Saucey!

Posted by opilia on April 19, 2009

The Hansens of the F/V Northwestern–long time featured fishermen from Discovery’s ‘Deadliest Catch’, and Puget Sound Foods recently put their heads together and came up with a great sounding line of sauces to accompany a variety of seafood!  “The Hansen’s goal is to market fish.  These new versatile Seafood Sauces are just a natural fit.”  When and where the sauces will be available has yet to be announced however, you can be sure to get that information from the Northwestern website soon.

CAPTAIN SIG TALKS SAUCE: “Shut up & Dip”
“We eat lots of fish sticks and there is always lots of our Tartar Sauce around
the table…it’s good! We also love to eat Shrimp and use lots of our Cocktail
Sauce (It’s good for making Bloody Mary’s too)!
We’re on a fishing boat not a luxury liner and you need to learn how to improvise.
The Tastiest Catch Sauce is great on any seafood and beyond.
I can barely leave the dock with out Sea Horseradish sauce for my crew….
it’s a must have.

It’s really fun for us to do this venture and share these sauces with you.
But I know at the end of the day, I’m still a Jack Ass.”

Rogue’s Deadliest Ale availability…

Posted by opilia on December 31, 2008

Several months ago Rogue announced it would be coming out with a brew deadliest-ale-labelcalled Deadliest Ale, and in October it sent out an official press release with it’s description, availability, and properties.  Unfortunately for most fans, the ale would only be available along the west & east coast of the U.S. and Norway…

Captain Sig’s Deadliest Ale will be available in Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Northern California, Maine, Massachusetts, the Gulfs of Florida and Texas, Canada, and Norway.

Good news now though!  …For those of us too far away to simply drive up and buy a couple of pints of this ‘deadly’ brew, there’s a website that will ship it out.  You can try your luck at Liquidgratitude .  No doubt there’s other websites that will ship as well but finding it in stock is tricky these days.  …Great looking bottle!

Wanted Dead or Alive: Rogue’s Deadliest Ale

Posted by opilia on August 29, 2008

Rogues Deadliest Ale label

Rogue's 'Deadliest Ale' label

Captain Sig’s Deadliest Ale from Rogue sounds interesting, doesn’t it?  Finding it though, may be like trying to track down crab pots lost under winter pack-ice, in the Bering sea…

Captain Sig himself, was seen hauling in a load of the elusive ‘deadliest’ brew, on to the Northwestern for a festive get-together during Seattle’s Sea Fair last month, but when fans contacted Rogue to get information about availability on the obvious collectible, the response was less then clear.  There apparently was a short run of the brute ale, but that was it.  There may also be more coming out but not now, maybe October…

So ‘Deadliest Catch’ fans, keep an eye out for ‘Deadliest Ale’ and give us a shout out here at Deadliest Reports if you spot what looks to be the perfect brew to serve up when watching ’Deadliest Catch’ marathons this coming winter!

Xbox, Coffee, and Beer in the works for the Hansens…

Posted by opilia on May 22, 2008

You may have already heard plenty about the Xbox 360 Deadliest Catch game soon coming out in June with a pc version as well, but did you know that Sig, Edgar, and Norman Hansen of the Northwestern also have their own line of coffee in the works, and beer as well?  Mike Ferreri, of Komo tv news recently spoke with Sig Hansen and reports details on the projects….

SEATTLE — Bering Sea crab fishermen are riding a wave of popularity with the success of the Discovery Channel’s hit show “Deadliest Catch.”

One crew from Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood is converting its new-found fame into all sorts of business possibilities.

Members of the Hansen family have been braving the dangerous Bering Sea and crab fishing for decades. Now, thanks to reality TV, they’ve turned a deadly job into their luckiest catch.

In an occupation where half the luck is finding the crab and the other half is living to tell about it, Sig Hansen and his crew have been one of the best.

“It’s like a gamble. Fishing is a gamble,” said Hansen. “If you don’t like it, get the hell off.”

With another crab season behind them, the captain and his crew are back in Ballard for the summer.

“We’ve got a good team ,good guys. That’s why we do so well and we come back every season.. alive,” said Hansen.

The crew members are working on their boat, the F/V Northwestern, and soaking up the fame they’ve gained on the TV show.

“I’m more than amazed. Didn’t think it would snowball to this extent but why not, man? It’s fun,” said the captain.

Four years ago, Hansen agreed to let cameras on board for a crab season. Now he’s one of the most popular fisherman in the world and he’s cashing in.

“What helps us sell us is because we are who we are and I think people dig it,” said Hansen.

The crew has signed a clothing deal with Helly Hansen.

“We’ve got our own brand own, little logo. Those guys are helping us drive that market. It’s great,” Hansen said.

And there’s a line of coffee.

“It’s a part of our life, man, for me. It’s coffee, cigarettes and chocolate. The coffee is a natural fit,” said Hansen.

New “Deadliest Catch” goodies, some available now and some on the horizon

Posted by opilia on February 24, 2008

With the debut of “Deadliest Catch” season 4 slowly sneaking up on us, we can probably count on having new “Deadliest Catch” merchandise available for us die hard fans.  I know that the Time Bandit Website is expecting new items soon and Helly Hansen–gear sponsor for the Northwestern crew–just recently posted a few new things.  Haven’t heard anything from the Wizard, Cornelia Marie, North American websites yet, but we’re still pre-season and crews are still fishing.  Perhaps soon we’ll hear from them as well.

Would you like to be able to toast the F/V Northwestern & crew with a cold beer, or a shot of your favorite liquer, or perhaps drink a cup of coffee with a “proper” Northwestern mug?  If so, check out the new items available from Helly Hansen.  From what I’ve learned, they ship very quickly and package their items with top of the line Helly Hansen lining…Check the the HH website for all the details.  And remember, there will be other new deadly, fashionable goodies coming from other sites soon!

Autographed Deadliest Catch Hooded Sweatshirt. Signed by Jonathan Hillstrand of the Time Bandit, Neal Hillstrand of the Time Bandit, Jake Anderson from the Northwestern, and several members of the Deadliest Catch Camera Crew.  Sweatshirt is being auctioned off as a fundraiser for Channel 8 Television and KIAL Radio in Dutch Harbor, Alaska. Both stations are services of the non-profit organization Unalaska Community Broadcasting, and all funds raised will be used to help sustain local radio and television services to the community of Unalaska and fishing port of Dutch Harbor. Unalaska Community Broadcasting is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization; a purchase over the retail value of this item is tax deductible.  For more information on our organization, visit www.kial.org

Channel 8 Television and KIAL News are the local media in Unalaska/Dutch Harbor and they’ve provided long distance fans like myself with alot of interesting news from Alaska.

From what I understand there will be two hoodies auctioned off in all, both of them one of a kind!  The hoodie is heavy-duty, from Dutch Harbor, Alaska.  Why purchase a plain one when you can get one signed by some of your favorite fishermen?  Bidding on this item ends on February 21st.  Good luck!  Check it out on Ebay….
