Phil Harris Tribute and Memorial

Friends, fans, peers, and family gathered in Seattle, Washington, yesterday evening, April 30th, to pay tribute to the man we’ve all come to know, love, and admire–Phil Harris, skipper of the F/V Cornelia Marie.  First up to speak were his sons, Jake and Josh Harris who quickly announced–after thanking people for attending–that it was their wish that all would take part in celebrating their father and the dynamic life he led.

During the memorial, a specially made video was shown of Capt. Phil and some of his more interesting moments at sea as well as his so memorable sayings.  The executive producer of ‘Deadliest Catch’ spoke of Phil’s magical ways with words, while ‘Deadliest Catch’ creater Thom Beers explained fishermen have wicked sense of humors and that Phil ‘got him good’ with the ‘crab fart’ theory.

Dan Mittner spoke very highly of his best friend, and wore Phil’s leather Jacket last night.  Another gentlemen who had known Phil since 1977, as that was when they first became neighbors explained that he knew Phil was special right off the bat, when he walked into his living room and came face to face with Phil’s three Harley motorcyles!
