DEADLIEST REPORTS

Fansite for Discovery’s Emmy award winning show ‘Deadliest Catch’!

Discovery Communications and it’s Stars to ring opening bell at NASDAQ Thursday morning!

Posted by opilia on September 17, 2008

Earlier today, it was announced that Discovery Communications had cleared the last hurdle to go public on the New York Stock Exchange…

The move caps a years-long effort by cable magnate John Malone to untangle the complex ownership structure of Discovery, which owns a suite of U.S. and international cable networks, including Discovery Channel and Animal Planet. The deal will combine the stake owned by Mr. Malone’s Discovery Holding Co. with that of Advance/Newhouse Communications to create a new public company.
David Zaslav, Discovery Communications’ chief executive, said in an interview that the newly public company will be focused on “growing our business internally,” but could also use its new stock, which is expected to start trading Thursday, as a currency for acquisitions, including cable channels, new-media assets and content libraries.

And following that interesting bit of news, we learned that not only will select members of Discovery Communications be ringing the bell early Thursday morning at Times Square at 9:30 am eastern, but some of our favorite ‘Deadliest Catch’ skippers will be on the scene as well!  Links are available to watch it live

John Hendricks, Founder & Chairman and David Zaslav, President and
Chief Executive Officer of Discovery Communications will preside
over the opening bell to celebrate the company’s first day of
trading as a public company. Discovery Communications is the world’s
number-one nonfiction media company reaching more than 1.5 billion
cumulative subscribers in more than 170 countries.  The executives
will be joined by several on-air personalities from across
Discovery’s networks including Bindi and Terri Irwin (BINDI THE
JUNGLE GIRL); Stacy London and Clinton Kelly (WHAT NOT TO WEAR) and
Sig Hansen, Phil Harris and Johnathan Hillstrand, the captains from
the Emmy-award winning series DEADLIEST CATCH.
