CEO of Original Productions Thom Beers, discusses his many shows
Posted by opilia on September 25, 2007
Thom Beers, CEO of Original Productions, the man behind such hit series’ as ”Deadliest Catch”, “Ice Road Truckers”, “Lobster Wars”, and more. And that’s not to mention the many shows in the works, recently was interviewed by radio 106.7 WJFK. Interesting discussion! Beers not only talks about his existing shows, and those to come, but also explains how he came to be the creator of such hits. For example, Original Productions has an entirely new show coming out that features Swordfishermen! Another great tidbit about his background: Thom Beers was a producer for Jacques Cousteau during the last seven years of the French icon’s life. Get the scoop on all these great shows and listen to the interview!

He deserves a lot of credit for developing the idea. What a great interview.
And Doug Stanley has done a great job continuing the vision of DC.

He showed up on ” After the Catch ” and said he got the idea from actually going out to sea himself for a segment on dangerous jobs ( king crab fishing ) and fell in love with it. He stated he was a different man after the experience and this inspired him to do this series.
Doug Stanley LOVES the king-crab-fishing experience and it shows in the quality of the work.

Opilia,
To get the text in the yellow box you use the blockquote button when writing your post.
It sets it apart as a quote.

Regarding Thom Beers… he narrates most of his own shows, and if you’ve never heard his voice, well, let’s just say his style is extremely arrogant and very annoying. After about 5 seconds I personally have to change the channel. That idiotic voice from Monster Garage just reverberates in my head until I want to scream. It’s very distinctive and cannot be forgotten…you all know what I mean! Until he stops narrating his own shows, I will not be watching. I mean, is he too cheap to just hire a decent announcer? For instance… a normal person would pronounce the word “away” in a smooth continuous flow. This guy pronounces it like ” A WAY” in 2 very distinct syllables, both with heavy emphasis, and a weird cadence, not nearly as entertaining as Christopher Walken, but equally strange none the less. There is a big difference between recognizably good, and recognizably bad! Admit it… Monster Garage was pretty bad in terms of over pronounced words and that idiotic, arrogant announcer style voice! Let’s encourage this guy to do the right thing and stay “A WAY” from the mics! Please!

Thom,
I am very disappointed that the “Stump Branch” crew was not on AX Men in Season 2. They were very popular among the working class small business owners, such as myself. Bring them back in season 3 and highlight their accomplishments. Go their website and read the dissapointment of hundreds of fans, including mine.
Thanks,
